About Massoudi Consulting Engineers

Firm Introduction

Massoudi Consulting Engineers is a San Francisco-based, California-licensed civil engineering firm that has been serving the Bay Area since 2012. Led by founder and principal engineer Rod Massoudi, P.E. (License No. C81412), the firm has completed thousands of residential and commercial engineering projects across San Francisco, San Jose, Marin County, and San Mateo County - bringing years of Bay Area structural and civil engineering experience to every project.

Massoudi Consulting Engineers provides structural engineering, civil engineering, and architectural design within a single, integrated practice. All three disciplines are coordinated by one team from the earliest design phase through permit-approved drawings, ensuring that structural and civil work is developed together and that drawing sets are internally consistent - free of the coordination conflicts that arise when multiple firms are engaged on the same project.

At the core of how Massoudi Consulting Engineers operates is a direct-service model: every project is assigned a dedicated licensed engineer and a designer who remain on that project for its entire duration. Clients work directly with the professionals responsible for their engineering drawings -not with intermediaries - and that continuity of access and communication is something clients consistently identify as a defining quality of working with the firm.

Our Approach to Structural & Civil Engineering in the Bay Area

The San Francisco Bay Area presents a specific set of structural and civil engineering challenges that go beyond standard building practice. San Francisco is classified in one of the highest seismic hazard zones in the United States. A significant portion of the Bay Area's residential building stock was constructed before modern seismic codes were established - many of these structures require careful structural assessment before any modification. The region's hillside terrain, expansive clay soils, and constrained urban lots create civil engineering conditions that are routine here and uncommon almost everywhere else.

Massoudi Consulting Engineers has been practicing in this environment since 2012. That means our engineers arrive at every project with direct, accumulated knowledge of the structural conditions, soil types, terrain patterns, and permit requirements specific to San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area communities - knowledge that takes years to develop and that directly affects the quality and efficiency of the work we produce.

What Distinguishes Massoudi Consulting Engineers

Integrated structural, civil, and architectural services under one roof.

Most engineering projects in the Bay Area require at least two disciplines - often all three. When structural engineering, civil engineering, and architectural design are handled by one coordinated team working from shared information, the result is a drawing set that is internally consistent from day one. There are no conflicts between the architectural plans and the structural drawings, no gaps between the civil grading plan and the foundation design, and no time lost to back-and-forth between separate firms. For clients, this means a more efficient path through city plan check and a smoother construction process overall.

Direct access to licensed engineers throughout the project.

Every project at Massoudi Consulting Engineers is assigned a dedicated licensed engineer and a designer who remain with that project from the initial consultation through the permit-approved drawing set. Clients communicate directly with the licensed professionals responsible for their work - not with account managers or project coordinators acting as intermediaries. This is a deliberate structural choice, not a feature of firm size, and it is the quality that clients most consistently identify in their reviews of our work.

Demonstrated Bay Area permitting expertise.

Massoudi Consulting Engineers produces structural and civil drawings prepared specifically to meet the requirements of San Francisco DBI and the building departments of Bay Area jurisdictions across the Peninsula, East Bay, Marin County, and South Bay. Our drawings are prepared correctly from the start - accounting for the local code amendments, jurisdictional preferences, and plan check standards that are specific to this region. Clients have noted the absence of plan check corrections and city delays as a direct outcome of working with our team.

A decade-long record of client trust in San Francisco.

Massoudi Consulting Engineers has maintained a consistent five-star rating across review platforms throughout its history in San Francisco. The qualities clients name most often - Rod's depth of local code knowledge, the team's responsiveness, the clarity of communication throughout the project - reflect the way the firm is structured and the standards it holds across every engagement.
